The Woeste is dominated by the tower of the parish church of St. Christophorus, which can be seen from afar.
Not far from here is the Haus Düsse agricultural training and research institute on a former Wasserschloß with an adjacent small deciduous forest. A footpath along the Ostinghausen sports field leads there.
The small fen is a magnet for birds in particular. The approximately 50-hectare area is one of the last remaining calcareous fens in the region. The observation point allows good observations of the birdlife and the impressive water buffalo that keep the area open.
The Woeste can be explored on foot or by bike on a partly gravelled footpath from Ostinghausen to Lohe. There is an observation point at ground level in the eastern part of the area. From there, you can either walk back the same way or return to Ostinghausen via the Woesteweg in the east of the area and Loher Straße (approx. 4.2 kilometers).
Ostinghausen is located between Soest and Lippstadt. You can reach the area via the B 475 by driving north of Soest in the direction of Weslarn (L746), driving through this village and turning right into Kirchstraße in Ostinghausen. Or you can come from Bad Sassendorf and take the K 5, K 41 and L 808 in the direction of Ostinghausen.
