Jews have lived in Lippstadt since the Middle Ages, interrupted by periods of expulsion. A period of emancipation began in the 19th century. The catastrophe of the Holocaust meant expulsion and murder for the Jews of Lippstadt. The ruins of the synagogue, which was destroyed in 1938, remain to this day.
