The abbot's staff and the slanting bar were the coat of arms of Bredelar Abbey. The village of Bredelar used to belong to the municipality of Giershagen and became an independent municipality on April 1, 1900. The wavy base of the shield refers to the Hoppecke stream flowing through the village.
In addition to the Protestant Christuskirche and the Catholic Christkönig Bredelar Church, there is also the Kloster Bredelar cultural and meeting center with the Kunstraum Sauerland exhibition hall and the local history collection.
Extensive mixed forests invite you to take long walks along the Bredelar mining trails, for example.
Here you will also pass a Mariengrotte grotto in the forest that is well worth seeing.
