The Diemel has its source in Willingen-Usseln at 660 m above sea level and after 15 km flows into the Diemelsee, a reservoir, before flowing into the Weser. The Diemelradweg runs parallel to the Diemel as far as Bad Karlshafen.
There is a hiking parking lot at the source of the Diemel, which is an ideal starting point for beautiful hikes up the Kahle Pön, into the Strycktal valley with the Mühlenkopfschanze or to the Ettelsberg. The nearby Graf Stolberg Hütte is an ideal place to stop for refreshments.
The Diemelquelle is also a nice resting place and offers the opportunity for refreshing Kneipp treatments with its water treading pool.
