On an exhibition area of over 900 m², you will be taken on a journey into the depths of the earth, through underground vaults full of crystals and into the history of brine, salt and health on the Hellweg. You can extract brine, pump it onto the Gradierwerk or try out how a salt worker went about his trade hundreds of years ago. You will discover worlds of work long gone - but also the chemical basis of salt, its cubic crystal structure, which is unparalleled in nature.
Via the "crystal" - which protrudes from the old courtyard building as the defining feature of the exhibition - you reach the upper floor. Here you can find out more about the effects of salt on the body and learn about the surprising uses of this common everyday raw material. Finally, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of healing and therapy: How and why does brine affect the respiratory tract, what does salt do to our skin or why is a mud bath actually so good for us? On the gallery, the exhibition invites you to linger and relax in a fictitious spa world.
