The "Via Regia" leads from Essentho to Marsberg, a well-known trade and military route in the Middle Ages, which had already been laid out by the Romans. The Venus sign in the coat of arms is a reference to the copper deposits near Essentho. The Antonius lime tree is often mentioned in history. The ears of corn indicate the predominantly agricultural structure of the village.
Essentho is home to a rescue station for owls and birds of prey with an arboretum (tree park).
In addition to several local hiking trails, some national hiking trails such as the Eggeweg, part of the Hermannshöhen, the Pilgerweg and the Sintfeld-Höhenweg lead through the village.
The Catholic church of St. Anthony of Padua is located in the center of the village. There is also a Jewish cemetery.
