Banded shale from the Orketal - The climate leaves bands in the rock

Linear, thin bands in the rock were formed by different climatic conditions in times long past. Find out why and also learn what conodonts and trilobites are.

You will find the quarry in the Orketal near Medelon.

Directions: Between Hesborn and Medelon on the L617, drive to the Orketal hiking parking lot. From here it is approx. 2.6 km on foot. Alternatively, follow the path "Zum Orketal" from Medelon in the direction of Elkeringhausen (hiking trails: Medebacher Bergweg, Höhenflug, Gewässerpfad Orke).
