The Papen sculpture workshop in Giershagen was one of the most creative workshops of the Baroque period. Heinrich Papen and his son Christophel left behind an extensive collection of artistic monuments in more than 50 places in the Sauerland, East Westphalia and North Hesse. There is a corresponding monument in the town center. Giershagen can also look back on an important mining history, which is kept alive with the themed trail "Mining Traces" and in clubs and events.
The parish church of Fabian and Sebastian is located in the village center, while the Kluskapelle chapel with works from the Papen workshop is located outside the village in the cemetery.
Located in the Diemelsee Nature Park, the village has several other beautiful hiking trails in addition to the "Mining Trails", such as the Bionik-Pfad with interactive stations, the Klusweg near the Marienkapelle, the supra-regional Sauerland-Waldroute and the Pilgerweg as well as the Diemelradweg.
