The Hochheide on the Kahler Asten is one of the most important nature reserves in the Winterberg region and a popular destination for nature lovers and hikers. At 841 meters high, the Kahler Asten is one of the highest mountains in North Rhine-Westphalia and offers an impressive backdrop for those seeking relaxation and nature enthusiasts.
The Hochheide has been a nature reserve since 1965 in order to preserve the sensitive ecosystem of the upland moor area. This unique landscape is characterized by its diverse flora and fauna, including heather, mosses, rare insects and bird species. It is not only a paradise for hikers in summer, but also has a special charm in winter.
The Hochheide on the Kahler Asten also offers a special experience in winter. Under a blanket of snow, the landscape is transformed into a silent, white backdrop. The sweeping views over the surrounding forests and valleys make the winter season an ideal opportunity for walks, snowshoe hikes or simply to enjoy the tranquillity of nature. The clear, cold air and the unique panorama attract numerous visitors in the cold season.
