Monument

#deinsauerland / Neusta POIs / Kiepenlisettken

The Kierspe sculptor Waldemar Wien created the bronze figure of the "Kiepenlisettken" for the town hall square as a reminder of the time when people "in the country" were happy to have needles, buttons, yarn etc. brought into their homes through the itinerant trade.

Lisettken, whose civil name was Lisette Cramer, née Buschhaus, was born on January 26, 1845 in Kierspe and died on May 1, 1907 in Halver. As a trader, she moved from farm to farm and from place to place with her Kiepe, which was filled to the brim with goods for daily use.

In her younger years, Kiepenlisettken also traveled beyond the local area to Mainz, Frankfurt and Einbeck, delivering parcels and letters to Schalksmühle and Halver residents serving in the military. She was known everywhere and very popular due to her honesty and friendly nature.
