The Kneblinghausen Roman camp is a fortification located around one kilometer south of the Kneblinghausen district of the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Rüthen(Soest district).
These are two camp areas that are congruent in large parts of their perimeter and were approx. 10 ha (older camp) and approx.
7.5ha
(youngercamp) in
size.
While the fortifications of the camp (Wallen, pointed ditch, wood-earth wall and gates) have been largely proven, the construction and use of the inner areas is still completely unknown. However, it has been established that there was a Germanic settlement here before the Romans, as evidenced by pottery finds.
