The Kyrill-Pfad in Schanze - experience the force of nature up close!
On January 18, 2007, hurricane Kyrill swept across Südwestfalen with full force and left large swathes of devastation in the forests. In Schanze, the traces of the storm were deliberately not removed from an area owned by the state. Instead, a unique path was created that shows how nature reacts to such an extreme event.
On the Kyrill-Pfad trail, which is around 1,000 meters long, visitors can impressively experience how powerful the storm was - fallen trees, rooted earth and the slow but steady work of natural reforestation allow visitors to see the forest with different eyes.
A 250-metre section of the trail has been designed to be barrier-free and is therefore also easily accessible for families with baby carriages or wheelchair users.
The entrance to the Kyrill-Pfad is located directly at the ranger station and the crook at the end of Schanze. Parking is available at the trail parking lot at the entrance to the village. The Kyrill-Pfad can also be easily reached from the Bad Berleburg-Kühude hiking parking lot - in about an hour via the WaldSkulpturenWeg.
For those who want to delve even deeper into the topic, the Rothaarsteig rangers offer exciting guided hikes along the Kyrill-Pfad on request.
The Kyrill-Pfad is one of the 43 Sauerland-Seelenorte in the Sauerland-Wanderdorf hiking villages. You can find the history of the Sauerland-Seelenorte by Michael Gleich and other useful information at www.sauerland-seelenorte.de.
