The construction of the ramp was part of the Möhneauen floodplain life project with the aim of bringing nature back into the course of the river. The fish ladder enables ecological continuity, allowing fish and other small organisms to pass through the upper part of the river. The project quickly made an impact and fish can now also be spotted in the upper reaches. To build the fish ladder, which meets the requirements of the European Water Framework Directive, a total of 3,000 tons of stones were placed in the Möhne over a total length of 120 metres.
