Built from 12 stelae in the shape of a fish, the symbol of the early Christians, the chapel is an open space to linger and exchange ideas with yourself, with other people, with God and with nature. Situated above Hillershausen, it offers sweeping views of the landscape.
The construction of the chapel was initiated by the association "Freunde und Förderer der Bergkapelle am Eichkamp Korbach-Hillershausen e.V." in autumn 2021. The foundation stone was laid in June 2023, with the official inauguration in June 2024. The building owner is the district and Hanseatic town of Korbach. The chapel was financed by the town of Korbach with funding from the Diemelsee-Nordwaldeck LEADER region, the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg, the support association and generous donations.
The chapel was designed by Christoph Hesse Architekten, who also built the Open Mind Places in neighboring Referinghausen in Sauerland. There is also a thematic relationship to the Sauerland-Seelenorte - rocks and quarries, churches and hilltops, mighty trees and underground caves, lakes and valleys, which are impressive in terms of landscape and culture and have and had a special meaning for the people in their surroundings.
