The town was founded as a settlement of the castle people based on the castle of the same name mentioned in 1030. Due to the many feuds of the von Padbergs, the town could not develop properly as such and soon became a village again. The wave cut and the colors silver and blue are taken from the coat of arms of the Lords of Padberg, in whose "lordship" the village was located.
The village is dominated by the Catholic "New Church - St. Maria Magdalena" with its two towers. Below the "Old Church - Petruskirche" is the former elementary school, where the well-known local poet Christine Koch worked as a teacher at the end of the 19th century. Padberg is home to the only preserved half-timbered synagogue in North Rhine-Westphalia, which was restored in 1993.
The beautiful landscape with impressive views from the surrounding mountains can be explored on the Sauerland-Waldroute, the Uplandweg X15 and several local hiking trails. You can experience the interplay between nature and technology on the interactive Bionik-Pfad, idyllically situated in the Diemeltal between Padberg and Giershagen.
