Just a few minutes' drive from the town of Meinerzhagen, in Valbert-Bahnhof, is a very special work of art - a former goods wagon that has been transformed into a "school of seeing" by Dutch artist Peter Sevriens with a great deal of imagination and a sense of humor.

Once you enter the Waggon, it's hard not to be amazed: Here, just a few square meters are teeming with obscure and playful objects, sculptures and pictures whose great commonality lies in provocative wordplay and the symbiosis of everyday, supposedly incompatible objects such as mannequins, knives, license plates, enamel bowls and tin cans. One object, for example, consists of cameras mounted on a saw blade. Shortly afterwards, your gaze falls on a wooden bench with the words "Don't ask me shit" hammered into it with nails. And then you catch sight of a golden typewriter enthroned on a wooden pedestal with a toilet lid mounted on it.
Sevriens, a self-taught artist who began his creative career as a photographer, takes a close look at our viewing habits in his works, dissecting and caricaturing them in a cheeky yet affectionate way. So if you want to see something unusual, you should definitely take a look at this walk-in art object.
The Photo-Waggon itself is available for purchase, as are limited edition photo calendars, art memories and many other objects that await interested art lovers in the ART STATION next door.
Sevriens' "Photo-Waggon" is inspired by the first traveling photographers in the USA, who roamed the countryside in covered wagons, equipped with chemicals and technical equipment, to capture the rural population in photographs.
Incidentally, the Sauerland wagon has had an eventful life in the truest sense of the word: in 1991, it was transported from the Sauerland to the Ruhrgebiet with the help of a crane and a low-loader for the "International Photo Days Herten", where it was viewed by art enthusiasts from all over the world.
A few years later, it could be admired for a week at Rudolfplatz in Cologne as part of the "International Photoscene Cologne" during Photokina in 1996.
At the beginning of 2023, things suddenly took a turn for the worse when it had to be removed from its original location and relocated at the behest of Deutsche Bahn. Once again with the help of a crane, the work of art weighing several tons was removed from the tracks and placed right next to the Sevriens family home. Since then, the art wagon has shone in new splendor, as it was renovated with much love and care last year. And now curious visitors are very welcome.
