By renaturalizing the area, the town of Warstein is helping to further replenish the moor's CO2 storage capacity. Intact moors soak up precipitation like sponges, protecting them from flooding during high water. They also store even more CO2 than forests can. Biodiversity is also strengthened. There is a viewing point at the raised bog, the bog itself is considered a highly sensitive natural area and may not be entered.
