Schloss Haus Sassendorf, as the castles in northern Germany are known in many places, is located right at the beginning of the spa gardens, somewhat hidden behind large trees. It is privately owned and therefore not open to the public.

However, Haus Sassendorf is also well worth seeing from the outside. It was built in 1785 by Franz Gottfried von Bockum, known as Dolffs zu Sassendorf, and his wife Sophie Dorothea Maria von Menge.

Von Bockum was a Prussian chamberlain and hereditary salt worker, i.e. he owned rights to the salt production in Bad Sassendorf. The gable of the house is adorned with the coat of arms of the von Bockum-Dolffs.

The house is a classic late Baroque building. It is axially symmetrical, i.e. mirrored right and left. The half-timbered buildings of the castle complex were originally farm buildings.
