The Schönholthausen Heimatstube displays numerous exhibits relating to agriculture and forestry in the region, village crafts and local customs on an area of around 260 square meters. For example, you can admire great-grandma's place of work in the form of a kitchen with coal stove, bench, large dining table and a variety of kitchen utensils. In addition to the equipment for milk processing and home slaughtering, there is also a cobbler's workshop and a carpenter's workshop. On the upper floor there is a schoolroom, a doctor's surgery and a bedroom in the style of the period around 1900, among many other interesting things from this time. The smithy with bellows and some rare religious exhibits are located on the first floor. Documents such as registration books and school exercise books tell of village life around 1900.

Patronal festival at the Heimatstube in August, always on the weekend after Assumption Day (August 15).

The Heimatverein Schönholthausen e.V. as the sponsor of the Heimatstube Schönholthausen was founded in 1991. The 750th anniversary of the village of Schönholthausen in 1990 was the deciding factor for the founding of a local history association. Some preparations had to be made for the anniversary celebrations and so the idea was born to found an association dedicated to the promotion of local customs and the preservation of local history.

In 1992, the oldest building still standing in the village had to make way for a new building. During the demolition work, old wooden beams with inscriptions were found. In addition to these wooden beams, we were given the beams from the large Deelentor gate. This historical find was given to our local history society for safekeeping. What to do with such a valuable piece of history? A space had to be created to preserve and display it for posterity. We found these premises in a former cowshed from the Melcher farm, now in the Gerold house. With this beautiful half-timbered house, in the shadow of the church, we had found the ideal place to display these exhibits. This idea was well received in the village and many "Holter" gradually brought us historical and worth seeing "old" things. They rummaged through attics, cellars and the contents of long-forgotten chests. With the words: "That would be something for your exhibition", we ended up with an extensive collection over time. The 120 square meters we had originally rented were no longer enough. Everyone pitched in and we built another 140 square meters of exhibition space in the former hayloft of the Gerold house. So today we can show many things from great-grandma's kitchen and bedroom on an area of around 260 square meters. In addition to the tools used to work the fields, we have many exhibits from village crafts such as cobblers, carpenters, blacksmiths, tailors, beekeepers, bakers and flax processing. Religious documents, pictures and statues are just as much a part of our exhibition as a bridal couple dressed as was customary at the turn of the century. Old photos of weddings and their preparations complete the picture. A small village school from the turn of the century and a doctor's surgery from the 1930s show our children and grandchildren today what life was really like back then.
