Towards the end of the last century, the Catholic parish of St. Josef was founded in Nachrodt. The first building was erected in 1894, a room for church services and a school class. Initially looked after by the clergy from Altena, the parish was given its own vicar in 1907 and finally became an independent parish in 1920. On September 25, 1927, the new church of St. Josef zu Nachrodt was consecrated.
