The foundation stone for the first Magnus Church was laid in 1019 and it was consecrated as St. Magnus Church in 1040 or 1046. It belonged to the Corvey monastery. The old church was demolished in September 1852 and the foundation stone was laid in the tower base in 1853. The neo-Gothic hall church with a choir closed on three sides was built from ashlar masonry between 1853 and 1856.
