The eponymous Lippe flows through the middle of the municipality of Lippetal from east to west. The Lippe is a right tributary of the Rhine in North Rhine-Westphalia with a catchment area of 4,888.7 km². The history of navigation on the Lippe goes back at least as far as Roman times, as the Romans already used the river to transport their goods in small boats.
Experience the Lippe: Fishing, observing, canoeing, cycling (Römer-Lippe-Route, Auenland cycle path).
As part of the winning project of the "Erlebnis.NRW" tourism competition, tangible floodplain landscapes and attractive nature observation opportunities were created for visitors to the Lippe and Ahse floodplains.
The "Auenland cycle path" takes you to these interesting places. The cycling map isavailable from the ABU or the municipality of Lippetal(www.lippetal.de).
The ABU = Arbeitsgemeinschaft Biologischer Umweltschutz im Kreis Soest e.V. offers guided excursions to the protected areas.
