Be sure to check the weather forecast
Entering the forest and the trekking sites can involve risks. Falling branches and slippery forest and meadow floors are not uncommon. There is a risk of life-threatening injuries, especially during storms. Use of the trekking sites is at your own risk. No liability is assumed for possible damage, especially from falling branches or falling trees in the forest. Every user must inform themselves about severe weather warnings. We recommend that you do not use the trekking sites if there are severe weather warnings! The current situation and weather forecasts can be found on the website of the severe weather center.
Simple rules for carefree enjoyment of nature
Use only with a valid reservation and only on the designated platforms
Use and overnight stays are only permitted on the wooden platforms and only with a valid booking confirmation! Overnight stays next to the platform are not permitted! The platform offers space for up to 2 tents for 2 people each, or 1 tent for 4 people. Please note the size of the area (5.00 * 3.50m). For tents that are larger than the pitch area per tent, the entire wooden platform must be booked! Tents larger than the total size of the platform are not permitted. The season begins on April 1st and ends on November 15th of each year. The use of a natural campsite is permitted for a maximum of 2 consecutive days. Dogs are permitted.
Please use the compost toilet provided
Each campsite has its own composting toilet. Sprinkle a handful of bark mulch into the container after each visit to the toilet. This allows raw humus to form more quickly and reduces odors.
Typical forest dangers
Use of the trekking sites is always at your own risk. No liability is assumed for possible damage, in particular due to falling branches or falling trees in the forest. All users must inform themselves about severe weather warnings.
Leave no traces, but keep everything clean for the trekking guest after you
Littering is the biggest concern in this project! Help to dispel this fear. Take your trash back with you! This camp site has no garbage can and no official waste disposal system. What you leave behind, stays behind! Should you nevertheless come across garbage, please inform us directly. If the waste is very dirty, please also report this directly to the booking office. The toilet must not be used as a garbage can.
Avoid noise
The nature camp site is intended for a quiet experience of nature. Playing music equipment is not permitted. Please also avoid making any other noise so as not to disturb nature and your fellow campers.
Driving on forest paths
Driving on forest paths and the nature camp site with mopeds, motorcycles, quads or cars is generally not permitted. Bicycles are also not permitted on the access paths to the trekking sites.
No open fires
Even though we know that a campfire could be a nice addition, this project is only possible because, among other things, there are no fire pits. Building campfires or lighting barbecues and hobo stoves is prohibited. Esbit and gas stoves are permitted.
Our controls for your enjoyment
The nature campsite is inspected by us or our representatives at irregular intervals. They check the condition of the pitches, tickets and are happy to help if you have any questions. They may also exercise domiciliary rights and expel guests from the site if they violate these user regulations. We reserve the right to press charges in the event of violations. In the event of an expulsion, the accommodation costs paid will not be refunded.
Things to know
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
The trekking platform is located in the spa area of the city of Brilon, so you are subject to visitor's tax. The visitor's tax is €1.50 per person/day from the age of 14. This will be charged separately. You will receive the SauerlandCard from us shortly before your arrival. This allows you to use the buses and trains in the towns of Brilon, Olsberg, Willingen, Winterberg, Schmallenberg etc. free of charge. The nearest bus stop is at Poppenberg.
Trekking between April and November
We would like to give our native wildlife species enough space and room for the winter season. For this reason, we only offer the trekking sites for overnight stays between April 1st and November 15th.
Free parking lot
You can park your car free of charge in Gudenhagen-Petersborn at the Kyrilltor.
Map material
Around a thousand kilometers of marked trails invite you to enjoy a variety of tours. On top hiking trails such as the Rothaarsteig and Sauerland-Waldroute, but also on many smaller circular hiking trails, a new adventure awaits around every corner. Maps and route descriptions are available from the tourist information offices in Brilon and Olsberg.
Booking confirmation for the trekking platform
You should always have the booking confirmation for your trekking platform with you. In the unlikely event that the platform is already occupied by other - unregistered - trekking guests, you will have priority. We check the trekking sites at irregular intervals. It is helpful to have a valid confirmation with you.
We recommend the following equipment
Drinking water
There is no water supply at the campsites! Even the surrounding streams often carry little water in the summer and fall months. So make sure you take enough water with you and keep stocking up along the way. Better a few liters too much! Remember that you not only need water for drinking, but also for cooking and washing. You should take 4-5 liters per person per day!
Hiking boots
Well-fitting hiking boots contribute significantly to the success of your trekking tour. The rule is: if you save money here, you are saving in the wrong place! Ankle-high shoes are recommended for beginners, as inexperienced hikers with luggage are less likely to twist their ankles in these shoes. You will also be moving off the beaten track in search of natural campsites. You should therefore avoid shoes with smooth soles or little tread. This is especially true in wet weather. Otherwise, seek advice from a specialist store when choosing your hiking boots.
Tent and tent cord
Of course, you can also spend the night on the platform without a tent. As the weather in Hochsauerland is often wet, we recommend a tent. Please note the following information:
The platform is 5.0 * 3.50 meters in size. The tent is attached to the platform using the tent ropes. Don't forget to bring enough tent cord!
Food/first aid/toilet paper
Food
There are no supermarkets in the immediate vicinity of the nature campsites. You must therefore buy your food in advance. Either in advance at home or before the start of the hike on site.
Toilet paper
There are composting toilets at the nature campsites. Please bring your own toilet paper.
Rainproof clothing
It does not necessarily have to be expensive membrane clothing. A simple, rainproof jacket and trousers (!) will also do the job. However, you should not set off without rainwear, even if the weather forecast in the Sauerland is good.
Backpack
All your equipment has to go somewhere. It won't work without a rucksack ;-). The size of the rucksack depends primarily on your stature and the amount of equipment you have. Here, too, it is advisable to get advice from a specialist store. If you don't have a rucksack yet, have your backpack of choice filled with weight in the store and take a walk around the block. This will quickly show you whether your backpack and you are a good match.
1 aid kit
Blisters on your feet, sunburn, mosquito bites, etc. These don't necessarily have to be part of a trekking tour.
