In the coat of arms, the golden ribbon of the Orpe with the mill wheel refers to the economic importance of the river with its mill, Hamme and sawmill. The tree is a symbol of life and prosperity, which is largely based on forest ownership. The Waldeck star is a reminder of the good neighborly relations with the Principality of Waldeck.

The Catholic church of St. Josef is idyllically situated in the village center.

The circular hiking trail on the rough pastures in the "Glockengrund" nature reserve preserves a natural and cultural heritage. In the Glockengrund, you walk on old seabed over the Glockenrücken or through the Hummelgrund and, with a bit of luck, you may come across a shepherd with his flock. Light and warmth-loving plants such as sunflowers, gentians and orchids grow on the calcareous grassland.
