In 2014, footbridges and stairs were installed in the Veleda-Höhle cave with financial support from the Leader project "Vier mitten im Sauerland" and funds from the municipality of Bestwig. The Velmede-Bestwig village community has set itself the task of illustrating the special features of the cave and the legends and stories surrounding the cave to interested visitors, with
regular public guided tours of the Velede Cave taking place during the summer months. Individual appointments can be arranged.
From the beginning of October to the end of April, the cave serves as a winter home for bats and may not be entered out of consideration for the animals.
The Veleda-Höhle cave is located on Halbeswigerstraße in the municipality of Bestwig, Velmede district. Turn off the B7 onto Halbeswigerstraße towards Halbeswig and follow it for approx. 1 km until you reach the entrance on the left-hand side. The signs will show you the way to the cave. It is located about 200 m from the road, in the forest. From the bus stop "Velmede, Veledastraße" it is approx. 1.3 km on foot (uphill) to the Veledahöhle.
