The watchtowers, known as watchtowers, were vital for towns in the Middle Ages as a quick warning against military attacks. In Geseke, four watchtowers - Lugdalwarte, Heringerwarte, Hölterwarte and Elsingerwarte - were part of the town's defensive ring. Today, only the remains of the Lugdal fort are still standing.

The Lugdal watch tower is also known to the people of Geseke as the "Hexenturm" and is a popular destination for young May hikers.

Together with the Heringerwarte, the Hölterwarte and the Elsingerwarte, the Lugdal watch tower was part of the defensive ring of the town of Geseke in the Middle Ages, as a quick warning of attacks was vital in times of war.

"Lugdal" meant "look into the valley". Above the Schledde valley, the approximately 10 to 12-metre-high tower was manned by a lookout who, in times of war, alerted the "Türmer" of the Geseke town church with smoke signals or flag signals when enemies were in sight. This was the only way the "Türmer" could warn the people of Geseke in time.

Today, only the stump of the tower wall and the remains of the curtain wall remain.
