The hike leads around the Ilpetal valley, along the villages of Sellinghausen, Altenilpe, Hengssiepen and Nierentrop and offers views of these villages and the Hawerland.
Always follow the hiking sign S8.The hike starts at the hiking board at the St. Blasius Chapel in the center of Sellinghausen. Follow the hiking sign S8 in the direction of Altenilpe. It takes you past the Hotel Stockhausen (refreshments available) and the Sellinghausen golf course to the village of Altenilpe. In Altenilpe, cross the district road K20 and the Ilpe stream, leave the church of St. Luzia on your right and turn left before the Ferienhof. The S8 now leads you past the Ferienhof play barn and steadily uphill between meadows, later through a wooded area. At the top, you will come across the Sauerland-Höhenflug hiking sign (white H on a yellow background). Follow it and the S8 slightly downhill to the left, past the house in Hengssiepen, until you reach a large crossroads with a refuge.Turn sharp left here with the S8 in the direction of Nierentrop. At a meadow, continue straight ahead until you reach a paved path that takes you left, downhill to Nierentrop. At the K20, turn right, walk past the houses of Nierentrop and the old bakery and climb uphill along the district road towards Dorlar. At the top of the hill (on the right-hand side is the "Kapelle auf dem Bruch" with seating), cross the road and turn left along the paved path towards Sellinghausen. Stay on this path until you reach the shelter at station 5 "Tierweitsprung" of the "Walderlebnispfad Dorlar". At this junction, the path leads left downhill back to your starting point in Sellinghausen.
A rescue point system has been installed in the Hochsauerland district. Rescue points can be found on the information boards at junctions and hiking signs.
If you would like to eat from your rucksack, you will find 2 shelters and many benches with beautiful views during your hike, which invite you to take a break.
