You can enjoy the landscape at the Möhnesee. For those interested, the lake offers good opportunities for birdwatching. Around 25 species of waterfowl regularly occur here. In the winter months, large populations of goosanders, goldeneyes and pochards can be found here, while ospreys can sometimes be seen during the migration season. Tufted ducks and great crested grebes live on the lake all year round. Cormorants come to the lake to feed from mid-August to the end of September. They usually gather near the Heve peninsula in the late afternoon. The animals can then be observed from three vantage points. Only around 100 animals remain at the lake all year round.
On the stony areas of the lake shore, there are large banks of the triangular or wandering mussel, which is an important food source for diving ducks and coots.
