Brochure "Spiritual hiking trail - from monastery to monastery". Available for 4 euros from Bergkloster Bestwig, Abtei Königsmünster Meschede and the tourist information offices in Bestwig and Meschede at the train station. More information at https://klosterweg.smmp.de/
The spiritual hiking trail from monastery to monastery connects the Benedictine Abtei Königsmünster in Meschede and the Bergkloster Bestwig of the Sisters of St. Mary Magdalene Postel. The two monasteries are around 15 kilometers apart, i.e. a day's walk.
The trail consists of two routes. The northern route leads via Eversberg and Föckinghausen. The route leads over two mountains, each with an elevation gain of 100 to 200 meters, but the paths are well developed. Nine impulses invite you to reflect on your own path in life. They deal with topics such as mobility, preserving creation, taking responsibility, encountering new and foreign things or our dreams and visions. Ideally, both routes can be combined with an overnight stay in one of the monasteries and a visit to the morning and evening services or prayer times there.
The northern route of the monastery trail is signposted with a curved "KW" on a blue background.
The spiritual impulses can be found in the booklet accompanying the monastery trail.
Weather-appropriate clothing, hiking boots and possibly rucksack provisions.
The booklet accompanying the spiritual hiking trail from monastery to monastery was published in a second, revised edition in spring 2020. The 52-page booklet is available in the Königsmünster Abbey store and at the monastery gate of Bergkloster Bestwig, as well as at the Bergkloster Bestwig Tourist Information Office for a fee of three euros. Among other things, it contains overview maps of both routes, a detailed route description and all the texts on the spiritual impulses, as well as information on the two religious communities and the monasteries.
