A stage with many different stories awaits hikers here. Starting in the small village of Volkringhausen, the wooded path leads past the village of Sanssouci and the equestrian facilities of Schloss Wocklum.

Here you will also find the Luisenhütte, one of the oldest, fully preserved blast furnaces in Germany. A detour to the Luisenhütte as well as to the Balver Höhle, the largest cultural cave in Europe, is always worthwhile.

After passing the Melscheder Mühle mill, the route continues towards Sorpesee, over the Brachtenberg and past the Heinrichsquelle spring. There is also another legend station here. After the last few kilometers, the hiker passes the dam wall of the Sorpesee and arrives in the village of Amecke.

Information on the rescue signs along the Sauerland-Waldroute

Most hiking trails run away from towns and settlements and every hiker has thought about what would happen if an emergency were to occur. How can I be found here? Where am I anyway? Can the emergency services reach me?

In an emergency, things have to happen quickly! That's why the Sauerland-Waldroute is equipped with so-called rescue signs throughout. The green and white stickers attached to the posts of the signposts have a number that you must give when making an emergency call. This means that the emergency services know exactly where you are and valuable time can be saved.
