Mountain station of the Ettelsberg cable car
Mountain station of the Ettelsberg cable car
The Ettelsberg cable car takes you comfortably up the 838 m high Ettelsberg. The circular trail begins at the mountain station, the first sign is at the Hochheideturm tower by the lake. Follow the red-grey signposts and walk leisurely along forest, woodland and meadow paths.
After about one and a half kilometers, you will reach the Mühlenkopfschanze, the largest large hill in the world, where the best ski jumpers in the world go on a long-distance hunt every winter and fly down into the valley like eagles.
It is also home to the spectacular Skywalk, one of the longest suspension bridges in the world at 664 m in length. With no disturbing pillars or supports, it offers a magnificent view of the famous Mühlenkopf sports facility and the beautiful landscape.
The circular route continues from there to the Große Grube, past the Kyrillpfad and finally back to the Hochheideturm. Here, the youngest guests can let off steam in the large playground. The 4-kilometre circular trail has a difference in altitude of around 100 meters and is also suitable for baby carriages, but not for walking frames or wheelchairs. Sturdy footwear is recommended.
The circular trail begins at the Ettelsberg cable car mountain station, where the first red-grey signpost is already located.Pass the Hochheideturm tower on the right, then turn left towards the mountain lake, after a few meters down the embankment of the lake and along below the lake until you turn left onto a forest path. After about one and a half kilometers, you will reach the Mühlenkopfschanze and the spectacular Skywalk, the longest suspension bridge in Germany. The circular route leads from there via hiking trail W1 to the Große Grube, past the Kyrillpfad and finally back to the Ettelsberg.
We recommend sturdy shoes, clothing suitable for the weather, rucksack provisions and sufficient liquids (water, tea).
