The encounter with the soul place "Steinbruch am Schinkenkeller" can easily be combined with a short, easy circular hike. The forest path offers a pleasant introduction to the place of the soul and time and peace to reflect on the experiences.
The former "Schinkenkeller" was located in the immediate vicinity of the quarry. According to oral tradition from the village, this is an old former gallery that was used to store ham and other supplies during wartime.
From the starting point at Kulturgut Schrabben Hof (Silberg Straße 32, 57399 Kirchhundem), head slightly uphill in the direction of "Müsener Straße". At the first crossroads, turn right into the road "Zur Weinspitze" and continue straight uphill until the asphalt road ends at the edge of the forest. Continue straight ahead on a forest path and after approx. 100 m turn left onto the signposted forest path (X). At the next junction, continue straight on, following the markings (X) on the tree trunk. After a long right-hand bend, there is a bench to the left of the path. From there it is approx. 200 m to the entrance of the quarry on the right. The view falls on mossy slopes, dead trees and a small dark pond. There is another entrance a few meters further on, also on the right-hand side. If you continue to follow the circular path slightly downhill, you will reach a fork in the road after approx. 1.0 km. Here you follow the asphalt road downhill into "Müsener Straße" and later onto "Silberg Straße", back to the starting point at Kulturgut Schrabben Hof.
There are no refreshment stops along the way. You should therefore take rucksack provisions with you.
Most hiking trails run away from towns and settlements and every hiker has thought about what would happen if an emergency were to occur. How can I be found here? Where am I anyway? Can the emergency services reach me?
But in an emergency, things have to move quickly! That's why the hiking trail network in the Lennestadt & Kirchhundem region is equipped with so-called rescue signs throughout. The green and white stickers attached to the posts of the signposts have a number that you must give when making an emergency call. This means that the emergency services know exactly where you are and valuable time can be saved.
The quarry at the Schinkenkeller is one of the 43 Sauerland-Seelenorte in the Sauerland-Wanderdorf.
