Hiking portal Weddelsee Medebach
The starting point of the circular hike is at the Weddelsee hiking portal, where the Medebacher Bergweg trail also begins. The first section runs along the former railroad embankment of the narrow-gauge railroad: from 1902 to 1953, the "Fiery Elias" steamed along here towards Steinhelle near Olsberg.
Before the route plunges into the Weddel forest, we can enjoy a fantastic view of the old Hanseatic town from the top of the hill. On natural paths and trails, we experience the almost 500m high Weddelberg and as a small highlight, the Hasenkammerblick awaits us, where the view, as the name suggests, goes into the Hasenkammertal. We can also see far into the Rothaargebirge. A panorama board explains the surrounding mountains. Up here is also a good place to rest comfortably. A forest sofa, wooden table and bench invite you to do so. Winding paths lead downhill through the forest to Weddelsee.
The circular hiking trail is marked throughout with the black/white A3.The starting point of the circular hike is the hiking portal at Weddelsee. We pass the portal sign for the Medebacher Bergweg and walk along the former railroad embankment, then cross a road and walk up a short path through hedges and bushes. After walking up the road for about 200m, we turn left into the Weddel. Continuing uphill, we finally turn left again and reach the Weddel hiking parking lot, where we find a hiking sign for orientation. Walking along a gravel path, we keep to the right. After about 200m, we have a clear view of the landscape to our right. Always following the A3 markings, we walk left into the forest again until we finally reach Hasenkammerblick. From here, we descend along a fairly steep path back down to the starting point at Weddelsee. The tour often follows natural paths and trails and is therefore not suitable for baby carriages and bicycles!

Current information about our forests - The bark beetle and its consequences
The forest owners are endeavoring to take the necessary measures in the forests and to remove the damaged wood. However, due to the extent of the damage, this work cannot be completed in a short space of time. The clearing and reforestation of the damaged forest stands will therefore take a long time and sometimes lead to disruptions such as closures and detour in the forests. This must always be taken into account when visiting the forest.
We therefore appeal to everyone who cares about the forest:
Please be considerate ...
A picnic at the Aussichtspunkt Hasenkammerblick is a great highlight of the short hike, and not just for children!
