This circular hiking trail in the Diemelsee Nature Park starts in the village of Welleringhausen - one of the smallest villages in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district. In the nature park at the foot of the long-extinct Grotenberg volcano, hikers repeatedly come across traces of geological and border history. A wide variety of plant species unfold their flowers there. Typical plants include heath carnation, field thyme and hot stonecrop. If you take a walk with the trained Geopark guide, you will learn lots of exciting facts about the flora of the nature park and the geological features.

Directions
The Welleringhausen Volcano Trail begins at the fire station in Welleringhausen, Zum Sonnenberg 12. Six stations provide information about geological and botanical features as well as the history of the village with the Romanesque Abraham's Church. The history trail runs past Grotenberg and Sonnenberg along the Uplandsteig quality hiking trail to Krutenberg. It continues along the same route as the volcano trail back to the starting point.You can also walk the trail in the opposite direction.
Equipment
We recommend sturdy shoes, clothing suitable for the weather, rucksack provisions and sufficient liquids (water, tea).
Author Tip
Combine both routes: volcano and history trail. Both trails run along the same route on one section.
