Virtually untouched forests and mysterious caves, valuable church treasures and historic industrial monuments, international music festivals and sporting events - the Hönnetal as a sub-region of the Sauerland, bordering the Ruhrgebiet metropolitan region, offers plenty of nature, culture and sporting opportunities.
There is plenty to discover and experience: the legendary Felsenmeer in Hemer with the Sauerlandpark in the immediate vicinity, the Luisenhütte in Balve - Wocklum, Germany's oldest preserved blast furnace, the Kettenschmiedemuseum in Fröndenberg, the international equestrian tournament Balve Optimum, the Recken- and Heinrichshöhle as well as the Balver Höhle as the largest cultural cave in Europe with its important cultural events. Sauerland-Höhenflug, Sauerland-Waldroute and many wonderful circular hiking trails inspire hikers.
