Die Reckenhöhle

Several hundred meters of guided tour lead the visitor through an underground realm that extends from the great main hall, through the "Paradise" with Adam and Eve, to the "Chapel ". The limestone that forms these small treasures consists largely of the remains of corals, arthropods and snails that lived in the cave and whose remains were pressed and solidified over millions of years. Fortunately, the natural works of art are accessible to everyone, as the Reckenhöhle has been developed to be completely barrier-free. Thus, even people with walkers, walkers or wheelchairs can visit the cave completely. Incidentally, this is worthwhile not only because of the stalactites, columns, sinter terraces and water basins, but also because of the unique effect of the air inside the cave. Under the heading of "healing cave therapy", visitors can immerse themselves in the tranquility of the cave for about 20 minutes, equipped with blankets, and enjoy the cool and clean cave air. A relaxation cure not only for people with respiratory problems such as bronchial complaints, hay fever, asthma or the like, but for anyone who wants to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and finally take a deep breath.

Our tip: 50 m away from the cave entrance is the inn and hotel "Haus Recke", which has been inviting visitors to the cave and the Hönnetal valley to stay for 200 years.
