Sauerland visitor mine

An adventurous journey of discovery in a disused ore mine

Put on your helmet and the original mine train rumbles into the dark tunnels. On the underground tour, you will discover how lead and zinc ores were mined here. Past the huge winding machine to the blind shaft, which leads 420 meters into the depths, and on to the tipping point. It gets really loud when the drill rig is demonstrated.

From the medieval mallet and iron to the loader from the 1970s, the mining museum takes you on a journey through time above ground. What did the mine manager's desk look like? Where were the pay packets handed out? What did the miners use the tubes under the ceiling for? Tools, machines and sparkling minerals await you in the exhibition in the listed Kauen building. An exciting and informative experience for young and old.
