Wintererlebnisse abseits der Piste

Winter has even more to offer

Winter in the Sauerland is an experience for all the senses: the frosty earth crunches under your boots, the peaks are powdered white or even covered in deep snow, the Christmas market smells of spicy treats. Winter in the Sauerland has another exciting side: enjoy the snow and the cozy, peaceful nature away from the slopes and toboggan runs.

Winter hiking through the landscape that has gone to sleep is a real pleasure. There are numerous winter hiking trails in the Sauerland that show nature lovers a new facet of the region. Some of them are pushed or leveled and are therefore accessible even when snow has fallen all around. Others lead along the Sauerland-Seen lakes, for example, and are a real insider tip, especially in the cold season.

Do you want to be out and about on skis, but not hurtling down the slopes? Then cross-country skiing might be something for you. In the high altitudes of the region, you will find many hundreds of kilometers of groomed cross-country trails - provided there is enough snow. In the Sauerland Nordic sports arena, there are even snow-covered trails and floodlit trails - a special feature in NRW.

Travel nostalgically through the winter landscape on the Sauerland Kleinbahn. Every year, atmospheric St. Nicholas rides are offered here, full speed ahead with the steam locomotive towards the Christmas spirit. Or you can snuggle up under a blanket in a horse-drawn carriage. If there is snow, you will be taken on a romantic ride through the wintry Sauerland, perhaps even on the runners of a horse-drawn sleigh.

Would you prefer a little more action and adrenaline? Then take a seat in the Taxi-Bob at the Veltins-EisArena in Winterberg and race at over 130 km/h through one of the fastest and most modern artificial ice rinks in Europe and the world. Definitely an unforgettable experience in the Sauerland winter.
