For Sauerlanders it is the metropolis, for the neighboring Ruhrgebiet the relaxing forest town on the doorstep. Between the Ruhrtal and Lenne valleys, between river meadows and low mountain ranges, there is plenty of countryside. Iserlohn, as the largest city in the Sauerland, combines urban life and nature in an ideal way.
No wonder that the "forest town" is also the starting point of the Sauerland-Waldroute, the Sauerland-Höhenflug opens up new, hiking and wonderful perspectives and the Drahthandelsweg leads hikers from here via Altena to Lüdenscheid. 200 kilometers of hiking trails offer an impressive nature experience - and the Danzturm in the city forest a phenomenal view. The Ruhr-Lenne-Achter opens up the city for cyclists - with a rail connection.
The big loop goes over 70 kilometers from the Iserlohn city train station, along the Lenne, through Letmathe to Pater and Nonne and back to the train station. The RuhrtalRadweg, which runs through the flat north of Iserlohn, also promises a particularly idyllic and family-friendly bike tour.
Stroll along the shore at the Seilersee or in the adjacent Seilerwald or a duel in the mini-golf - this is also possible . The historic factory complex Maste-Barendorf scores with artists' studios, the hairpin factory, the brass foundry and Germany's only needle museum to date, as well as a café.
In the Dechenhöhle with the German Cave Museum, brand-new LEDs set the spectacular stalactite backdrop in the right light. In the Museum of Speleology you will find a replica of the extinct cave bear, which is unique in Europe. Today vegetables directly from the farm, tomorrow shopping in the city. Simply beautiful. Lovingly maintained half-timbered houses and Gründerzeit facades everywhere - including universities. With the applause of the Park Theater behind you, the sound of the city forest in your ears, and the hustle and bustle and smell of coffee in your nose - welcome to Iserlohn!
