For Sauerlanders it is the metropolis, for the neighboring Ruhrgebiet the relaxing forest town on their doorstep. Between Ruhrtal and Lenne, between floodplains and low mountain ranges, there is plenty of countryside. Iserlohn, the largest city in the Sauerland, combines urban life and nature in an ideal way.
No wonder the "forest town" is also the starting point of the Sauerland-Waldroute, the Sauerland-Höhenflug opens up new, hiking and wonderful perspectives and the Drahthandelsweg leads hikers from here via Altena to Lüdenscheid. 200 kilometers of hiking trails offer an impressive nature experience - and the Danzturm in the city forest offers a phenomenal view. The RUHR-LENNE-Achter opens up the town to cyclists - with a rail connection.
The long loop covers 70 kilometers from Iserlohn city station, along the Lenne, through Letmathe to Pater and Nonne and back to the station. The RuhrtalRadweg, which runs through the flat north of Iserlohn, also promises a particularly idyllic and family-friendly cycle tour.
Stroll along the banks of the Seilersee or in the adjoining Seilerwald forest or a duel in minigolf - that is also possible. The historic Maste-Barendorf factory complex boasts artists' studios, the hairpin factory, the yellow foundry and the only needle museum in Germany to date, as well as a café.
In the Dechenhöhle cave with the German Cave Museum, brand new LEDs put the spectacular stalactite backdrop in the right light. The Museum of Speleology is home to the only replica of an extinct cave bear in Europe. Vegetables straight from the farm today, shopping in the city tomorrow. Simply beautiful. Lovingly maintained half-timbered buildings and Wilhelminian style facades everywhere - including universities. With the applause of the Park Theater behind you, the rustling of the city forest in your ears and the hustle and bustle and the smell of coffee on the shopping street in your nose - welcome to Iserlohn!
