Kirchhundem with its landscape is one of the most beautiful places in the Sauerland and is the greenest community in NRW. The municipality is particularly characterized by its location in the middle of the Rothaarsteig long-distance hiking trail and by a well-marked and signposted network of hiking trails. It also belongs with the Sauerland-Wanderdörfer to the 1st quality region Wanderbares Deutschland.
There is much to discover on foot in Kirchhundem: winding paths, wild cliffs and fantastic views over the land of a thousand mountains, as well as exciting and inspiring themed trails such as the border stories up close or the Rahrbach poetry trail. Those who prefer something more contemplative will find peace and quiet away from everyday life at the four Sauerland-Seelenorte.
Boredom is guaranteed not to arise in Kirchhundem. A visit to the Panorama Park or the nature park information center "Feuer & Wasser" (Fire & Water) in Oberhundem with its focus on the habitat of brooks and meadows as well as charcoal burning provides an extra dose of nature experience. A cultural center of the community is located in Silberg. The Schrabben Hof cultural estate is located there, with a theater, a community museum, a jumble barn, a café and a Biergarten.
The landmark of the community, the Rhein-Weser-Turm, is 684 meters high. From the very top you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Rothaargebirge mountains. In winter, the Rhein-Weser-Turm is the starting point for an extensive network of groomed cross-country ski trails. If you are ever in Kirchhundem, you should not miss a visit to the climatic health resort Oberhundem. The idyllic half-timbered village has a lot to offer with the spa park with miniature golf course, the Haus des Gastes with café, tourist information and the embroidery museum, the Adolfsburg, the bath on the Rothaarsteig and the Oberhundem Wellness Oasis.
A large selection of gastronomy and a variety of accommodations, from idyllic country inns to cozy vacation apartments, round out your stay in Kirchhundem.
