Kirchhundem
With its landscape, Kirchhundem is one of the most beautiful places in the Sauerland and is the greenest municipality in NRW. The municipality is characterized in particular by its location in the middle of the Rothaarsteig long-distance hiking trail and a well-marked and signposted network of hiking trails. Together with the Sauerland-Wanderdorf villages, it is also part of the 1st Quality Region Wanderbares Deutschland.
There is a lot to discover on foot in Kirchhundem: winding paths, wild cliffs and fantastic views over the land of a thousand mountains as well as exciting and inspiring themed trails such as the Grenzgeschichten hautnah or the Rahrbacher Poesieweg. If you prefer something more contemplative, you will find peace and quiet away from everyday life in the four Sauerland-Seelenorte.
Boredom is guaranteed not to be an issue in Kirchhundem. For an extra dose of nature experience, visit the Panorama Park or the "Fire & Water" nature park information center in Oberhundem with its focus on the habitat of streams and meadows as well as charcoal burning. A cultural center of the municipality is located in Silberg. It is home to the Schrabben Hof cultural estate with a theater, community museum, junk barn, café and Biergarten.
The municipality's landmark, the Rhein-Weser-Turm, is 684 meters high. From the very top, you have a wonderful view of the Rothaargebirge mountains. In winter, the Rhein-Weser-Turm is the starting point for an extensive network of cross-country ski trails. If you are ever in Kirchhundem, you should not miss a visit to the climatic health resort of Oberhundem. The idyllic half-timbered village has plenty to offer, including the spa park with mini golf course, the Haus des Gastes with café, tourist information and embroidery museum, Adolfsburg Castle, the Rothaarsteig baths and the Oberhundem Wellness Oasis.
