JOHATSU - Film screening

In Japan, around 100,000 people disappear every year, some of them with the help of night moving companies. Some flee from an unhappy relationship, others cannot withstand the enormous social pressure, others try to free themselves from criminal entanglements. With JOHATSU (蒸発 - "evaporate"), Arata Mori and Andreas Hartmann embark on an emotional quest: those who have stayed behind, helpers and those who have gone into hiding all face different challenges. A new start usually begins in isolation: the question of one's own identity arises with overwhelming urgency. The directing duo not only takes a look behind the scenes of the obscure practice of disappearance, but also penetrates deep into human nature.
