The spa gardens in Bad Westernkotten

Relaxation and adventure

The spa park in the brine and moor spa invites you to take long walks and enjoy nature. It presents itself in a different attractive dress every season.

Shady groups of trees, striking individual trees, extensive green areas and colorful flower plantings in selected locations characterize the well-tended park.

Comfortable park benches invite you to linger, for example at the Gradierwerk, at the fountain in front of the Kurhalle or at the fountain. Another fountain marks the transition from the spa park to the Hellweg Sole-Thermen on the spa promenade.

Discover many small islands of tranquillity, numerous interesting sculptures or a colorful knitted ash tree, an urban knitting activity worth seeing.

Where to stay & activities:

Gradierwerke

You can breathe in the salty air - similar to the sea - at the two large historic Gradierwerks in the spa gardens. The brine trickles along the blackthorn rice walls. This creates healthy aerosols for open-air inhalation.

Gradierwerk I was completed in 1845. Today it is the longest Kurpark Gradierwerk in NRW. It is 120 meters long and 12.25 meters high. The graduation area is approx. 2,400 m². It runs exactly from north to south. It was used for salt production until 1949.

Gradierwerk II was built in 1932 and is 58 meters long and 13 meters high. The graduation area is approx. 1,200 m². It runs from northwest to southeast.

Both Gradierwerks were added to the list of monuments of the town of Erwitte on December 18, 1984. They are to be regarded as cultural-historical and technical monuments and are among the largest technical monuments of their kind in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Herb spiral

The large walk-in herb spiral at Gradierwerk II entices you to feel pure nature and enchants the senses. Numerous herbs are briefly introduced on small signs. There are six themed areas: salt-tolerant coastal plants, mints, native wild herbs (known as "weeds"), classic kitchen herbs, perennials that can be used as "wild vegetables" and Mediterranean aromatic herbs.

Kneipp facility

The Kneipp facility in the spa park, with foot and hand basins, is filled with Bad Westernkotten brine water. Information about "Kneipp" can be found at the facility!

Nordic walking

Three Nordic walking routes of varying degrees of difficulty start in the spa park.

Information about the routes and this popular sport can be found on the sign at the entrance to the spa park.

Mini golf, boccia & more

The spa park also has a mini golf course where you can train your skill and concentration. This popular sport is especially popular in the summer season. Also tempting: Boccia, table tennis and garden chess.

The Kurhalle in the spa gardens is a popular meeting place. It is a place for communication and socializing, for chatting and getting to know nice people.
