The Eversberg cemetery of honor is home to 915 war dead of the Second World War from all parts of Germany. Mainly soldiers who fell in the Sauerland in March/April are buried here. The graves of the soldiers led by Field Marshal Model were scattered throughout the Sauerland. Some of them were located in meadows, gardens or even field paths. But the soldiers' graves were also found in church or municipal cemeteries.

It was difficult to find a suitable cemetery site. Ground conditions on the Klausenberg in Meschede or at the chapel in Winkhausen did not allow for a reburial. Finally, the current site near Eversberg was found. The expansion of this site began in the fall of 1958 and the last reburials took place in 1961.

The chapel was designed by the artist Schmidt-Elk. Rüthen sandstone was used as the material. The inauguration of the work of art "Mourning and Consolation" took place on July 9, 1961.
