Freiherr-von-Wintzingerode Park
59505 Bad Sassendorf
The Freiherr-von-Wintzingerode-Park (wildlife park) is located on the outskirts of the town center, in the immediate vicinity of the Quellenhof clinic, and offers you an interesting insight into the local flora and fauna.
Open the gate, enter the park and let yourself be surprised by what happens next: While you are taking an unsuspecting stroll, something suddenly crosses your path and you come face to face with a fallow deer. Without a trace of fear, it continues on its leisurely way. Follow him and you will discover more fallow deer grazing in the meadow nearby. You may also come across peacocks in the game enclosure.
The 15.5-hectare wildlife park consists of 2/3 deciduous forest and 1/3 meadowland and orchard. It was established in 1960 by its namesake, Baron von Wintzingerode, formerly head of the district of Soest. It is accessible to everyone free of charge. Today, as then, it fulfills a non-exchangeable, therapeutic purpose through the special, free and equal encounter between humans and animals. Children enjoy being so close to "wild" animals, and you too will be impressed by this new experience.
In March 2014, two insect hotels were installed in Wintzingerode Park as nesting and hibernation aids, e.g. for bees and bumblebees. A "green classroom" is soon to be created.
We look forward to your visit!
