Further information:

The 30-hectare Glörtalsperre reservoir with its adjacent wooded areas in the catchment area between Breckerfeld (Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis), Halver and Schalksmühle (Märkischer Kreis), south of Hagen, has long been a popular destination for visitors from the Ruhrgebiet and neighboring areas of the Märkischer Kreis. Built in 1903/1904, it was used to dam up the Glör stream to store drinking water and to regulate the water in the Volme and Ruhr rivers. After the Second World War, it became increasingly important as a leisure and recreation area. From 1975 to 1984, the Glörtalsperre was expanded with funding from the Ruhr Regional Association. Today, the Glörtalsperre is an intact and spacious recreational landscape that is visited by a wide variety of visitor groups.
