The Vorspanneiche - a historic resting place
The name Vorspanneiche suggests that this Sauerland pass has always been an important traffic route. It means that the horses of the merchants' wagons used to be unhitched at this location. Previously, they had been borrowed from the valley as additional traction to make it easier to get over the mountain.
Hiking tip: Border stories up close: The 4.5 km "Border stories up close" themed hiking trail brings these and other cultural and natural stories to life through podcasts. Simply follow the A2 circular hiking trail from the Vorspanneiche hiking parking lot through the Dollenbruch nature reserve.
Circular hiking tip Brachtser Höhenweg: The 13.5 km circular tour of the Brachtser Höhenweg offers a great deal of variety. It ranges from quiet forest passages, great meandering streams and beautiful views to the cultural gem of the Kohlhagen pilgrimage church, which you should definitely visit. Along the way, you can stop for refreshments at the Gut Ahe café and country inn.
