The first cross was erected on the Wilzenberg as early as 1626 during the Thirty Years' War. It was a 17.5 meter high wooden cross. Rain, snow and storms eroded the substance of the crosses, so new crosses were erected over the course of time. The current five-ton iron cross was erected in 2015.
