It provided access to the town from Altena and Hagen.

The urban redevelopment in the second half of the 20th century and the construction of the Kurt-Schumacher-Ring largely destroyed the historically evolved situation at the Westertor.
Gosengasse has remained almost unchanged for centuries.

The house at Westergraben 1 is considered to be the production site of Iserlohn's silk industry, which is documented to have begun in 1737.

The gates were laid down at the end of the 18th century.
To this day, the street name Westergraben and various stainless steel information boards commemorate the course of the city wall.
